Pan Am Railways originally operated under the name of Guilford Transportation Industries and leased the operation of it's approximately 450 miles of main line and it's extensive branch line service to the hands of Springfield Terminal Railway. They in turn operated under these three former railroad names, Boston and Maine (BM), Maine Central (MEC), and Springfield Terminal (ST).
With the purchase of Pan Am Railways by CSX it appears that CSX will now operate those sections of the line that were not under Pan Am Southern territory and Berkshire & Eastern will operate the Pan Am Southern portion once labor disputes are ironed out.

Several of the trains that run west of Rigby Yard in South Portland now run in connection with Norfolk Southern Railways as PanAm Southern trains. This joint operation has Norfolk Southern paying some of the maintenance costs.
